I bought a copy of "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks back in 1996 when it sold about a bazllion copies. The story - an old man reads to his wife, stricken with Alzheimer's, from a notebook, telling how they first met and fell in love many years ago. He's hoping against all odds that one day she will recognize him again, if only for an instant.
Sadly, I found Sparks' writing to be unremarkable. He goes for cheap, obvious sentimental effects, and his characters and situations are two dimensional. Anyone who has read more than two books will be able to predict what happens at the end.
I got bored and put the book away without finishing it.
Flash forward to last month, July of 2007. I caught up with the 2004 movie they made from the book, and - what do you know? - the movie is pretty good. The filmmakers fixed a lot of the problems with the plot, and fleshed out the characters. I actually found myself caring about the people.
The main title has a nice piano piece. I found it, ordered it online, and recorded it today.
Soooo....here you go, folks! The shortest "book" ever reviewed in this forum! It's only 3 pages long, and doesn't even have any words in it!

Hope you like my piano playing,
