Lacking direction in his life, Sam Swope, children's book author, granted a request to give a writers' workshop. He enjoyed it so much, he found himself devoting his time for a space of three years to that one particular group of children--third to fifth grade. He taught them creative writing, poetry, nature appreciation and so on, and as he did so, he recorded the brainstorming sessions and made notes for this book. He finished writing it by about their senior year in high school.
This is an autobiography of that brief period, a history of the classes, and a collection of poetry and short stories from the kids. It's a decent book, but I have to admit that something about his writing style made it a little slow going. I did like that he was honest in his observations--very objective--and it certainly is a book you can put down and pick up again, because its format causes each chapter to be sort of like its own short story. _________________ Eschew obfuscation. |

Thank you, jeffp, I'm pleased to be here. Looks like I may actually know at least one member more this year than I did last; welcome, patguy! _________________ Eschew obfuscation. |
