In the 25 in 05 forum, someone read Bambi and reviewed it. There is no copy of it in the Seattle library system, but this 1939 edition of its sequel was available. The old library card is still in it. The first date stamp on it is September 8, 1943.
It really is an intriguing book. It's obviously written for youth, but aside from anthropomorphication, it's lot less childish than one would expect. It has its moral scenarios, but seemingly without any particular agenda. Rather than teaching direct lessons to its readers, it brings up philosophical points, and often leaves them open and unresolved.
If I had a kid, maybe eight years old, I'd consider reading this with them. It would provide a lot of material for discussion. I wonder if it or its predecessor are still in print? _________________ Eschew obfuscation. |
