This book was lying around my sister-in-law's house looking lonely, so I picked it up to comfort it. It's a collection of African folktales.
It was interesting reading --- I thought the Brothers Grimm were disturbing, but all they had to worry about were wolves. I think 80% of the stories in this collection involved someone getting eaten --- by lions, hyenas, and even cannibals.
Best Story Title: The Grandmother Who Was Kind to a Smelly Girl
Best Moral: Parents must love their children even if the children smell very bad.
I'm not exactly sure for whom this book was written (well, other than fans of the Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency) because it seems a little too simple for adults, but God help the kid who reads these stories before bedtime. _________________ Todd Eisworth
