It's been many many years since I've read this one, and it seems to have acquired a great deal more resonance and meaning in the last two decades. There is much in Stephen Dedalus that I recognize, and there is much that seems alien. I found the ambivalence towards "home" especially meaningful --- wanting so badly to escape the circumstances in which you spent your youth, and yet realizing that nevertheless you feel tenderness for those circumstances as well. _________________ Todd Eisworth
