so, this book definitely reminded me of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. i know that it was written way before Ya-Ya, but since i read ya-ya first....yeah, you know.
joy luck is sentimental without being sappy, which i greatly appreciated. sap = bad. well written, easy to follow, and somewhat inspirational. lots of chinese wisdom in this one, but none of the cheesy "confucius say..." bullshit we find in the fortune cookies at the restaurants. it was an interesting and involving read, but i could put it down when i had to (which i would usually see as a flaw, but i appreciated it this week when i had tests and papers and whatnot to do).
give it a try, or don't, it's all the same to me. yeah, i got something out of it. |
