I'm continuing on with the Stainless Steel Rat series.

In this relatively recent entry, Harrison goes back in time and writes the story of how the SSR got started in crime. Jim DiGriz is a 17 year old thief who wants to learn his trade. He intentionally gets thrown into prison, breaks out, seeks out the advice of a great thief known only as The Bishop, hides out with him inside an automated fast food restaurant, and winds up as a slave on a planet with dueling warlords. Yeah, that's a lot of ground to cover, and I'm not sure it all hangs together.

As these SSR books progress, they get longer and more complex. That's good because they're more substantial and less junk-foody. However, their increased length is not necessarily a good thing. I think an SSR novel starts to wear out its welcome after 125 pages or so, and this one starts to drag at 219 pages.

-Ed

PS: If you followed my last post, on p.76 of this book, a man dresses up in women's clothing.

How many of these things are there, Ed? Are we going to have to create a whole new review page for you? Smile

Don't worry, Jeff. There are only 11, and I'm already getting a little tired of reading them.
