An utterly iinadvertent reread, but none-the-less utterly enjoyable. Ngaio Marsh is one of those authors that I don't think I ever read because I was afraid that someone would ask me who wrote that book you're reading and I wouldn't know how to say her name. I adore the older mysteries and she's been recommended to me since I was a kid. I mean, even my mother told me I should be reading her and she died 17 years ago...so I really should have read her before this year, huh?
Well, now I have and I completely recommend her to those of you who like this sort of thing. They're not fluff and they're not hard-boiled either...she has lovely intricate plots that are delightful to watch unfold, and even if you figure out who did it and how it was done (or in this case actually remember who did it and why, but not how) it doesn't matter. I actually listened to two in a row and was depressed that they don't have more at my library. It's sort of like being able to eat all the fudge you want without getting sick on it. Obviously, I highly commend this book to you all! |
