I bought this because of the lurid, pulp fiction cover. For a dime. From the Salvation Army. I paid too much. This is the worst book I”ve ever read, and it took me months and months of reading it a page or two at a time in the bathroom at work. After a while, I realized that I was actually reading it and not just turning pages. And with that realization came the need to finish it.
Plot - local poor boy goes off to college to become a doctor and comes back home to practice. The girl he’s always loved is still in love with the crazy, violent, rich but handsome asshole who will never marry her. Indeed, he’s now married to another woman who’s an heiress. First girl is a nurse who’s brother is a famous actor with a heart condition. He is in love with the woman who the rich asshole is married to and is pummeling daily. Oh, the humanity. Please, put your eyes out rather than read this book. You’ll be glad you did. |

| I consider the written word semi-sacred. Even if I don't care for a book, I won't compost it; I give it away so others can read. But ever since I bought She Tore Out My Heart and Stomped That Sucker Flat, I've changed my rule. Sometimes the public has to be protected. Even if I have to take the onus of a book fire upon myself, and it's only the one copy of the one book, there are times when it just has to be done. |
