| The second in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, Tears of the Giraffe was just as nice as the fist. Nice, cute, stuff like that. I think I can read one of these a year. Although Mma Ramotswe is a fun character, as Botswana's only female detective, I'm never left with the urge to read the next book. Somthing about the cases she's investigating, her love life with Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, etc... never draw the reader in as much as I think they could or should. Actually, for me this one was slightly better than the first due to some interesting hashing out of the moral duties of a PI between Mma Ramotswe and her secretary (now assistant detective). How much to divulge to a client, when does compassion trump honesty, that kind of thing. |
