I've already returned this so I can't remember the author. I'll add it later if I remember. Also, this is my first book-on-tape to review, and it feels weird to me; I can't look back into the book to remind myself of favorite scenes, and it almost feels like reviewing a radio program. This isn't to disparage the book-on-tapes reviewed by others, but it may explain any difference in my review.
This was a slick, quick book; very episodic. It was enjoyable to listen to, and the reader was also (I think) from Botswana and did the accents well (although I'll be curious to find out how the Botswana "Mrs.", pronounced "*pause*M'm," is spelled).
It didn't give very many explanations for its scenes, describing them then letting them go, more like life than literature. I would have preferred to know how the lady detective got away with some of her exploits, not just what they were; but I think I came away pretty satisfied. If the library has the next one on tape, I may "read" it too. |
