This is a book designed to help non-fiction writers strengthen their skills and eliminate the jargon and clutter from their everyday writing.
It is an important book to read in an age when writing is more prevelant (emails, blogs, bulletin boards, etc) and readable by the obscure person than ever before in the history of the world.
It is based upon the thesis statement "if you can speak well, you can write well." I appreciate this statement, as it is one my Mother (an educator and writer) has made to me since childhood.
It holds practical information about how to strengthen your writing not only by eliminating the clutter from your writing; but, by finding your own voice and injecting warmth and humanity into the words you write on any topic - no matter how dry or mundae you perceive it to be.
It may be surprising that a book such as this one would be an entertaining read - it is. Mr. Zinsser demonstrates in this text that he has the chops to be advising people on the craft of writing, as he injects the book with a dry, sarcastic humor that I found truly engaging.
I am already the stronger writer because of this.
