It's 2025, and 75-year-old environmentalist Ty Tierwater is reduced to looking after the animals in a rock star's private menagerie. The animals are the last of their kinds and the only hope for possible restoration of their species. Ty was once an ecoterrorist, cementing himself in the paths of bulldozers and sabotaging heavy machinery; along with his wife and daughter, he tried to do something about the coming ecological catastrophe. But now that every year is an El Nino year, he wonders if any of it had a point - and then his estranged wife shows up.
This one reads like a cross between Boyle's short story, "After the Plague", crossed with Carl Hiaasen on a downer. OK, but not his best. |
