This is an oldie for me, but I haven't read it for five or so years. It's a Christian pioneer romance for preadolescents. This meant that when I was 12 I was allowed to read it during church because it was Christian. I still like it, even though I'm not really Christian or preadolescent (by a long shot).
It depicts a busy pioneer life with all the details I enjoy, kind of like Little House on the Prairie: soap-making, barn-raising, cooking from scratch, etc. It has plenty of harsh details, softened slightly but still there--death, abusive husbands, etc.
It makes me cry a couple times while reading it, but I just feel good by the end. Call me a romantic simplistic sap, but I had to write a nice review for it. |
