This book can be read all the way through in about an hour, and it's very cute. The author is a restaurant critic for the NY Times, and has a pleasant turn of phrase. The whole book is about a period of about three months, at the beginning of which a chicken randomly shows up in his Queens backyard, and makes itself at home.

Grimes' observations about his neighborhood, chickens, cats, and himself are pithy and wry, and I think you should give this a read sometime when you have an hour at a coffeeshop. People will look at you funny when you laugh out loud, but you'll find yourself reading passages out loud to them. Then again, maybe you should read this at home.

Alyson, 25 in '05 means 25 by the end of the year 2005, not by month 05 (May). You're putting me to shame! Very Happy

I don't have it anymore, it was a library book, but I think it's from the 70's or 80's. It was small and hardbacked and had a lot of illustrations that I thought were probably from a magazine or newspaper illustrator(visual memory strikes again yet avoids the useful information).

Dev, I'm writing hardly any reviews now. I keep rereading favorites. Does this count as me slowing down to make you look better?
