Loved Bill Peet's children's books, when I was a kid. Checked them out of the library all the time. If you haven't read them, please do. I reccommend "Cappyboppy" and "The Pinkish Purplish Bluish Egg," among the many others.
Peet's autobiography, which I checked out of the library, is so fully illustrated that your smart little 7-8 year old may even like it. It doesn't tell enough about his kid books, though; instead, it tells about how he managed to break into the field of writing and illustrating children's books after twenty-seven difficult years working for Walt Disney on such films as Dumbo, Fantasia, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and so on. |
