Alison writes the story of her life... which is defined by the tragic loss of her brother, Roy. She writes about how her parents handle the loss.. and how she comes to realize that he will not return. Alison also attempts to find solace in love as she matures...a love that is not understood by all, yet provides some comfort to her.
The book was very engaging to me.. held me in some sad but devoted way. I also have an older brother, and cannot imagine how the tide would have shifted if this had occurred in my family. She shares stories of rituals, likes, dislikes, memories... that help document the life of someone she was so close to "that their mother called them by one name, Alroy." |
