Alberto Villoldo, a classically trained medical anthropologist, has studied shamanic healing techniques among the descendants of the ancient Incas and of other Peruvian healers for more than twenty years. Where local traditions vary, he has tried to synthesise the essential elements to create a practical and revolutionary program based on the traditional healing methods used by these shamans -- methods that, until now, have been inaccessible to most of the world.
The techniques Villoldo describes rely on what he calls the Luminous Energy Field - essentially, the aura - and the imprints on the aura left by bad experiences, either in one's own lifetime or in those of one'a ancestors. Clearing these imprints is, therefore, the basis for healing. This seems to combine basic shamanic techniques (soul retrieval and concretised entity extraction) with elements of Eastern medicine.
What I found most intriguing was Villoldo's assertion that chakras, acupuncture meridians, and layers of the aura all were known and used by South American healers in pre-Conquest days. If true, it makes me wonder: if there were nothing at all to these concepts, why did people living in such widely-dispersed locations come up with essentially the same ideas? Convergent evolution? Undocumented contacts between India, China, and South America? Or just different observers documenting a set of facts?
I don't know how authentic this is, but it's an interesting system to play with. I'd like to know more about it at some point.

Actually, this is # 131 for you, Malabar. Care to correct that?
