A rich Sultan is murdered and his priceless ruby is stolen right out from eyepatched Tim Corrigan's nose.
Compared to the early Ellery Queen novels, many of these hard-boiled crime novels are embarrassments. This is one of them. The Golden Age mysteries are finely crafted, carefully thought out works of art. In comparison, this one looks like a homework assignment.
Of the 22 or so EQ books that I have left to read, there are a few substantial titles. But after I tacke those, there's going to be a lot of fluff like this. I'll have to figure out soon how far I want to go with this.
