In 1932 and 1933, Lee and Dannay wrote four Drury Lane mysteries as "Barnaby Ross." All of these books have been reissued as "Ellery Queen" books. They are "The Tragedy of X," "The Tragedy of Y," "The Tragedy of Z," and "Drury Lane's Last Case."
I gave high marks to the other books in the series. "Last Case.." still gets my vote for the best Ellery Queen book, period.
It took me a while to track down a copy of "X.." This is a magnificent book. I was riveted. I'd tell you the plot but it would take me too long.
I wish there were more of these Drury Lane mysteries.

Ed,
You need to fill in the author column in the EQ page. I am really curious about that. Lots of the books have no author listed. Now I know that the vast majority were written by a pair of guys, but you've also mentioned that some were written by authors unknown. Could you update the author column for every book? If it isn't known who wrote a particular book, just stuff "unknown" into the field.
Thanks! |

Jeff:
Let me look into this. Most of the books were written by Dannay and Lee, but once you get into the 1950s and 1960s they started farming out the titles to ghost writers. It was a part of the deal that the ghost writers were not to reveal their identities. So while some of the writers for the later novels are known, many remain unknown.
