the first-person narrative of a (fictional) boy from new york city who celebrates his sixteenth birthday learning that his girlfriend is pregnant. alternating between the "now"= after the child is born and he's trying to deal with high school, divorced parents, friends and caring for an infant, and the "then"= his memories of when he and Nia (his girlfriend) were still like every other high school couple, and memories of being with her during pregnancy.
an easy read, but interesting and inspiring. i felt myself sympathizing with the characters, wishing the teenaged urban father didn't have it so hard, missing Nia right along with him and being shocked upon learning where she'd gone. |
