by Cynthia Heimel

I've been way slow in reading anything this year - work has been crazy. Bah.

Anyhow - my second book screamed up at me "buy me! Buy me!" from the $2 book cart outside of Black Oak Books in SF one fine Sunday afternoon as I was walking home from work (yes, that's how crazy - I've been working on weekends, too!)

With it's bold assertation on the cover: OVER 100,000 COPIES IN PRINT

It seemed that this book was just the fluffiest of the fluff - a bizzare example of mid-80's reverse sexism... you know - women acting towards men like they think that men act towards women... but, I quickly found that with chapters titled "Zen and the Art of Diaphragm Insertion," "The Rock n' Roll Diet" and "Love and other Phenomena" that this was a laugh-out-loud riot of a book... a precursor, dare I say, to Candace Bushnell and her creation/alter-ego Carrie Bradshaw -- Cynthia Heimel's masterpiece objectifies BOTH men and women in snarky-city-girl fashion and provides a bit of practical advice (See chapter "How to be Good in Bed") for us single girls out there...

It is quite obvious that this book is circa 1983 - as there is talk of discos and other dated things single men and women do... not to mention more than one reference to shoulder pads - but, it is worth the read for the laughs alone.

Moving on: Back to my original #2, now #3: "An Unreasonable Woman"

And, as I've been home sick all week - I might even get through it this week.[/b]

Welcome back!

The fun is in the reading when you can. Life does this to all of us from time to time.

I've been off doing things other than reading as well for the past couple of weeks, and it won't end for a while. In fact, my reading will be reduced through mid-June at the least.

Ah well. It's good to know you're still there. Read when you can, and share it with us. Thanks!

Thanks, Jeff!
I tend to read the bulk of books during the course of a year when I'm on vacation -- last year I read something like 13 books in five days. It was pretty insane.

But, that's my idea of heaven!
