A high school girl has the opportunity to go to Cyprus to help with a conference. First she is supposed to spend a week in Athens with her aunt and uncle, but they are delayed and she has a few days to herself. She has had a traumatic experience that has caused some hard feelings for her friend and mentor, Max. The story unwinds through flashbacks of the past year.
I don't know if she did this in her writing in the Wrinkle in Time books, but L'engle seems to hint at some kind of problem at the beginning of the novel, and then take the rest of the novel to show you what's really going on. It's a slow revealing and unfolding. It could just be that way with these two books I've read recently. It's kind of fun, but I think it could get old if all of her books are that way.
There were some things that annoyed me in this novel. The biggest being that it seems that every guy in the book was falling in love with the main character. It's not that big of a deal, but it just left me thinking "Really? Again?" But, I'm still reading her other novels, so the annoyances obviously weren't that bad. |
