There I was walking through the bookstore, wishing there was a third book in the Wicked series, when I spotted a display with all things Wicked. Did my eyes deceive me? Was that a book I had not yet read? Was it brand new?
A Lion Among Men: Volume Three in the Wicked Years
This time we follow the Cowardly Lion on his current task, set years after we left Liir in Son of a Witch. It seems the Lion has been up and down the social ladder, and all over Oz. He is now set on a task by the current governing body in Emerald City. He is to find out how the Maunt Yackle is connected to Madame Morrible, or as it turns out, what Yackle had to do with Elphaba, her life, and her tome - the Grimmerie. Yackle demands information in turn, but she wants to know the history of the Lion, because she has no history of her own. In this manner, we see the events of Oz through a different set of eyes. His life overlaps the story we already know in some areas, but most of the time it's a completely new set of events.
I don't think this was done quite as well as Wicked and Son of a Witch, but I'm a sucker for a good series. It was fun and I'm glad I found it. |
