3rd in the series.
This time Bella is fighting off baby vampires (newlymade vampires, not infants that suck blood), and romantic overtures from her teenage werewolf friend, while making plans to run off and marry her vampire boyfriend.
It's too bad she doesn't choose the werewolf; he's a much more interesting character, and has realistic reasons for falling in love with her. He also doesn't insist on treating her like a fragile piece of rare china, and instead wants her to make her own choices and live her life as she wants, not how he thinks is best. Instead of the comfortable long-term love, she chooses the restless addicted love. I wonder if the author will ever write about the eventual disillusionment.. I'm guessing not. I hope I'm wrong.
The baby vampires are there so some action and violence can be provided, and we don't have to spend the entire book reading about Bella's dithering angst about "should I or shouldn't I - I'm going to hurt one or the other - if I run off and get married and become a vampire I'm abandoning my human family etc etc etc".
She's still not a vampire yet.
The next book in the series is supposed to be about the impending marriage. I'm guessing the author won't let her become a vampire in THIS one either, and will milk it for another book or two before Bella gets to go through the change.
Meh - I will probably pass on the next one, and instead check out the vampire book recommended in a previous review. |

Hah, I've been "mentally writing" that story for the last week --- infants that roam the night, looking for unguarded boobs on which to fasten.
I thought of calling it:

There's an amazing amount of stuff the author could've done to make this series MUCH more interesting, and break away from the cliches.
But NO! Somewhere there must be a set of rules for writing teen vampire romances, because it's so formulaic. Or maybe it's just a blend of the general rules for teenage and romance novels, with vampires and werewolves to make it seem like something TOTALLY! NEW!
It's all very amusing, actually, because I can play along and see how accurate my guesses are. |
