Hm. I have mixed feelings about this one.
It's a better book by far than "Cell". If you liked "Bag of Bones", you will probably enjoy this one. At least the wretched elder in the wheelchair is one of the good guys in the book, instead of the bad.
I don't want to spoil this, so I'm not going to get too much into plot details.
The first 2/3rds of the book is about how the protagonist, Edgar Freemantle, deals with recovering from a near-fatal accident and subsequent divorce by re-discovering his artistic talent on Duma Key, which is an isolated and mostly un-develeped Florida Key. The last third of the book is about how he (and assorted friends and family) get to suffer the consequences of his re-awakened artistic abilities.
Stephen King's penchant for disabling and/or killing off major characters has never been stronger than it is in this book.
I have mixed feelings about this book, but overall it's a pretty good read. I downloaded this for the Kindle, but I'd recommend checking it out from the library and save yourself the $$$. |
