46. The Last Score by Ellery Queen (1964)
Reid Rance is a bored travel agent who is hired by a wealthy woman to escort her precocious, headstrong daughter Leslie on a trip through Mexico. Leslie proves to be a handful, looking for too much “adventure” among the seedy element in the Mexican subculture. The book does a good job of making you feel the dusty, grimy, greasy atmosphere. It’s a trashy potboiler and I really liked it.

For some reason, this made me laugh, Ed. Thanks.
