16. The Drawing of the Three (book 2)
17. The Waste Lands (book 3)
I saw that these were recently reviewed but since there was a spoiler alert I haven't read that review. They strike me as books that are hard to review without spoilers, but I'll do my best.
These are sort of a combo of old gunslinger movies, The Lord of the Rings, and your average action/adventure combined with fantasy genre.
The very basic plot of book 2 is that our hero, the gunslinger, "draws" to himself three magical doors, through which he goes to unmagical America and does stuff that is interesting and captivating. In book 3, he has companions, and the action progresses in the direction of his quest. It, also, had me reading quickly and at every opportunity.
My mother and aunt were visiting this weekend, and at one point I actually had to stop reading simply because if I read just a sentence or two more I was afraid I was going to have to completely abandon them to entertain themselves while I finished. I am really enjoying this series, and last night was pissed to find out that the book IV I had bought was actually book VI. Dangit!
In a sort of "too close to the trees to see the forest" dilemma, I can't actually tell you whether these are good, or whether I just don't read the action/adventure genre much and am not used to reading being exciting. Nevertheless, so far I recommend them. _________________ Eschew obfuscation. |
