This is the story of a young Sweede who spends a summer in the English countryside to assist in the care of a young man, John, who appears to be mad. When she gets there, she finds she has little to do but occasionally walk him, help the women of the house a little, and read Victorian novels (man, I must have has some weird subconsious Victorian thing going on at the library).
Ms. Vine is supposedly a great writer of mysteries. I guess there was a fire and some deaths that were slightly mysterious. The mom and the sisters were even madder than hatters *and* the crazy man she was supposed to nurse. It was a little like a weird version of Jane Eyre. I had to struggle to finnish this one. _________________ I was born to speak all mirth and no matter. |
