This is an amazing book. In the first chapter a girl is murdered and we see the rest of the plot as she watches from heaven. We see her friends and family deal with what's happened, how they grow and move on.
It's exciting and suspenseful in parts, and I couldn't stop reading. The last part drags a bit, and I kept wondering when it would end, or how it would end because it seemed like we could watch this family forever. The ending was surprising for me, which made it interesting again and left me with a good taste.
Someone else on this board mentioned that they loved the father, Jack. I think I liked the sister, Lindsey, more. How she hides her grief from most and lives her life as the one who survived childhood in her father's eyes.
My other favorite part of this book is I noticed Aimee Bender wrote a piece for the back cover. I like it when authors I like read the same books I do. Then in the acknowledgements, Alice Sebold thanked Aimee for keeping her going while writing the book. They're friends! That's very exciting for me. |
