Because this was so recently and enthusiastically reviewed, I read it too.
I don't feel the same passion the other reviewer did, but I do think this is a good book. It felt very much like a part one to me, by the end, and good or bad, it needs a second part to clean it up; that said, you could get away with just the first if you're willing to be content with the resolutions it gave.
I found myself almost from the very beginning driving forward simply to have one plot question answered, which seems like very good writing to me. I haven't explained what the question was, so I hope it's ok to say that it was answered a bare nine pages from the end.
At one point in an interview the author described the central theme of the book as "an exploration of the risks and beauties of religious faith." An impressive goal to have for a science fiction book. Nice. _________________ Eschew obfuscation. |
