I am so glad I found this book. It was a wonderful and fantastic journey. I've always loved reading Greek and Roman mythology (although this didn't have much mention of their pantheon), and this was like a million mythological stories all compiled into one. With an additional modern day story.
I think I really love the idea that these gods are so human-like. No matter what supernatural powers they've got going on, they rely on humanity with as much feeling and emotion as anyone you've ever known. I think I've decided that my favorite character was Horus. I may change my mind, but for now he's it!
As for the story... a young man is just getting out of prison and should be going home to his wife and his best friend. Instead, he ends up on an adventure by working for a strange man named Wednesday. He runs into a lot of strange people while working for Wednesday, and only eventually find out about their supernatural status. |

The only flaw in this great book was the author making fun of the fact that one of the characters had a purple car.
Go to hell! I LIKE my purple car! |

Haha - actually when I was in high school I really wanted a purple truck. However, I was not stoned!
Also, there were a couple of flaws in the book. There were some inconsistencies with objects. For example, someone would remove an object, then a few paragraphs or pages later, the object would again be where it was the last time someone removed it, and someone else would remove it. (One example that I remember was the bottle of scotch that was in Sweeney's hands when he died.) I tried to figure out if there was some kind of trick going on, but I think it really was just an inconsistency. Unfortunately it happened a few times. Sometimes I think I really need to become an editor. |

I really enjoyed this book alot. Loki by far ruled my world as favorite character.
If you haven't already, check out Good Omens - a novel Gaimen wrote with Terry Pratchett. I think those two are my most favorite of the Gaimen novels.
Please disregard any spelling errors.

Yeah, yeah!
Bea's back!
OK, so I shouldn't take up a new career writing popular songs, but you get the general idea.
Welcome back, Bea. Hope to see reviews from you soon! |
