Yes, I just read your essay, dr. shaw, and you are absolutely right, seeing as I WAS a former employee there just days ago. No, wine was not the reason I quit.
I am here to strongly advise you all, DO NOT work at Olive Garden! DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT!!! You will miserably regret it! And here's the reason why.
When I applied there about a year ago and was hired as a host, it took me about a week to get the hang of all of the table numbers, etc. Well, things were going all right UNTIL later on and newer hosts were being hired. Now here's how the scheduling at Olive Garden works. The "best" people in the manager's eyes get the most hours. Be sure you understand me. I don't mean "best" as in "best performing", I mean "best" as in "favorite". So if the manager likes a brand-new host over somebody that has given OG 3 years of service, then the brand-new host will get more hours. WTH?!
At Olive Garden the managers don't care if you've been there 20 years. If somebody new comes in and the manager likes them more, then your hours are going to be cut to give more hours to the brand-new person. How do I know this? It happened to me. And I don't want it happening to you. So, don't work at Olive Garden. That's why I quit. |

Mmm...you should have said, "here's how the scheduling at THIS Olive Garden works", because that is not how I do my schedules at my Olive Garden! Obviously your OG differs greatly from others. Here's how I schedule employees--I go by two conditions, 1. seniority, and 2. performance. If you have a better performance than another employee, then I will try to give thst employee more hours...but if an employee has been here longer and as long as they have adequate performance levels, I give the most hours to them. What I'm saying is, performance counts. Favoritism actually isn't allowed by managers. If I were you I would e-mail corporate, they'll do something about it. _________________ Each OG has its own unique tale... |
